History Of Tiong Bahru

History of Tiong Bahru

Once the choice locale for the upper class, a place where the rich and powerful lingered. Tiong Bahru continues to remember those of great business acumen. In particular, the visionaries Lim Liak, Kim Pong, Guan Chuan, and Chay Yan. It is notable feature of Tiong Bahru estate that all its streets are named after Chinese pioneers of bygone days. We commit their names to memory as we stroll along the streets of Tiong Bahru. They were Singapore’s inspiration of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The scene itself is considered one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore, built in the 1930s. It is no surprise that time-honoured traditions in business carry on in the vicinity. The economic boom of the 1970s and 1980s are not forgotten. Today, they are transformed into modern day practices.

Gastronomy in Tiong Bahru

Built in 1930s Tiong Bahru Estate is one of the oldest housing estate in Singapore. Many will still remember the brilliant sounds of singing birds along the traditional kopitiams, where bird lovers gathered every morning over coffee and tea. Walk along Kim Pong and Kim Tian Road and explore the famous food centre there, and then along Lim Liak Street and Seng Poh Road. It has drawn numerous locals traipsing across the island to sample delights of char siew rice and stir fried noodles, among so many other local delights.
It is no surprise that time-honoured traditions in cuisine culture carry on in the vicinity. The beloved local delights are not forgotten. Today, just minutes away in a nostalgic haven, local fare is proliferated in a modern-day menu. Tipple galore takes centre stage in haute entertainment. Enjoy an exquisite selection of fine wines, quirky cocktails and exclusive champagne to while the night away in wishful wonder.
